- Set goals. It will help you to focus on what you would like to get out of the sessions.
- Follow therapeutic suggestions. Working on issues between sessions is an integral part of cementing new learning.
- Practice the new learning in your real work... where it really matters.
- Be inquisitive. Absolutely ask questions.. about your therapy, your progress, your therapist... about anything you are unsure of or that you may not agree with.
- Let those near and dear to you know you've entered counseling. Help them understand what you need.
- Just as you would take special care of yourself when feeling physically under the weather, also look after yourself during therapy.
- Choose your therapist carefully... you are important and so are your problems. Be sure your therapist is someone you can truly connect with.
